With Christmas just around the corner, many of us will soon be loading up the car, visiting friends and family, and travelling across Devon and beyond. It’s one of the busiest times of the year on the roads — and the worst possible moment for a faulty car key to let you down.
If your key has been sticking, failing to lock or unlock properly, or the remote has been playing up, now is the time to get it sorted. A small issue today can turn into a full breakdown or lockout when you’re miles from home with gifts in the boot.
Why Car Key Problems Get Worse in Winter
Cold, damp weather exposes weaknesses in your key and locks:
- Battery drain affects remote fobs more quickly.
- Worn or cracked blades can snap when temperatures drop.
- Moisture in locks can freeze, stopping the key from turning.
- Ageing transponder chips may work intermittently or fail completely.
The last thing you need on Christmas Eve is being stuck outside your car with arms full of presents.
